There are questions over the PPV numbers for the Davis vs Martin fight
Gervonta Davis retained his unblemished record and WBA Lightweight World title after taking down Frank Martin via an eighth-round knockout last month.
The performance highlighted Davis’ sparkling abilities in the ring, but there have been questions over how many PPV buys the encounter generated.
Journalist Dan Rafael suggest that the fight did between 325,000 and 350,000 PPV buys across all platforms in the USA.
This came after promoter Rick Glaser stated the fight wouldn’t even make the 200,000 mark.
Davis’ coach weighs in
Now, Davis’ coach Calvin Ford has weighed in and suggested that none of those numbers are real.
In an interview with Mill City Boxing, Ford was probed about the reported numbers online, responding: “That’s not true.”
When asked if the numbers online were close to the correct ones, Ford once again declined before stating: “That number [isn’t correct]. That’s why I haven’t posted yet. [Those] numbers aren’t true yet.”
Going off of Rafael’s numbers, the fight would be the second biggest in terms of PPB sales. With the title defence being sold for $74.95 a pop, that would mean the fight made more than $26 million.
However with no real clarity on what the real number is, Glaser took to X to share his thoughts.
However, Glaser’s comments should be taken with a grain of salt given he tends to be critical of PBC and Al Haymon.
