Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has expressed his determination to fight Tyson Fury in 2025, declaring that the long-anticipated clash between the two British heavyweights “has to happen this year.”

A showdown between the two rivals has been in the works for years but has yet to materialise. Both fighters are coming off losses in world title bouts, with Anthony Joshua suffering a stoppage defeat to Daniel Dubois in September and Fury falling to Oleksandr Usyk in December.

Speaking at the Ring Magazine Awards in London, the 35-year-old Joshua reiterated his desire to make the fight a reality.

“It’s a fight I want to see because I am a fan of boxing. When I am in the gym, everyone is asking me [about this fight]. I ain’t got many years ahead of me. I want to leave the game with a bang and make an impact,” Joshua said. “Everyone is asking me the same question. It’s up to me to deliver, that’s why I’m saying it has to happen this year. I think we can make this fight happen.”anthony joshua Tyson Fury

Despite his eagerness, Joshua admitted that no formal negotiations have begun with Fury’s team. However, his promoter, Eddie Hearn, has hinted that Wembley Stadium could host the blockbuster fight.

Asked by Sky Sports about a potential Wembley date, Hearn said: “Yes. We’re looking to get back in the ring in May or June. If it ended up being July, it doesn’t really matter.”

Both fighters are currently without world titles, making this a highly anticipated all-British clash. With fans clamouring for the bout and Joshua pushing to secure it this year, the boxing world awaits confirmation of what could be one of the biggest heavyweight showdowns in recent history.

Boxing superstar Tyson Fury has always been open with fight fans about his retirement intentions, with rumors again circling that the former world champion could hang up his gloves

Dethroned heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury has made his thoughts on retirement clear after successive losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

‘The Gypsy King’ lost his undefeated record to Usyk back in May 2024 when he suffered a split-decision defeat to Usyk. Boxing ace Fury, 36, hoped to avenge that result in their rematch last month but ended up succumbing in even more decisive fashion.

Given his advanced age and having missed out on his chance to become undisputed champ, it’s understandable talk has turned to potential retirement. But Fury has already dropped a heavy hint he has no intention of calling time on his career just yet.

“What’s next for me? I’m going home and having some time off,” he said after his second loss in Saudi Arabia. When asked if fans will see him fight again, he replied: “You might do, you might not. Who knows? We’ll talk about that next year.”Tyson Fury

Those comments were fairly ambiguous on the fighter’s future following a tough year for Fury. However, The Sun has since reported the boxing icon has told close friends: “It’s not over.”

It wouldn’t be the first time Fury has walked away from the fight game. In fact, more than a decade has passed since The Gypsy King first announced his departure in November 2013 when his scheduled fight with David Haye collapsed for a second time.

“Hi everyone, I have officially retired from boxing,” he wrote on X (then Twitter). “There’s too many bent (crooked) people in the sport. They will have to f— someone else. Goodbye boxing.”

That pledge proved to be short-lived, considering he fought Joey Abell just three months later and continued his career at a steady pace. Almost 10 years passed before he once again said he was retiring in 2022, having defeated Dillian Whyte at Wembley in a sixth-round finish.

TYSON FURY stormed out of the ring after suffering a heart-breaking points defeat by Oleksandr Usyk – and both fighters have now received suspensions!

Officially at his career-heaviest weight of 20 stone, Fury came flying out the blocks before Usyk began to work out the Gypsy King in the latter stages.

After hearing the judges’ scorecards being read all in unison of 116-112 for Usyk, Fury immediately left the ring and did not conduct his in-ring interview.

Following back-to-back defeats to Usyk, many are questioning whether the Gyspy King will hang up his gloves – but The Sun exclusively revealed that the former world champion has assured pals: “It’s not over.”

On an eventful undercard, Johnny Fisher was DROPPED by Dave Allen before winning by a controversial decision and Moses Itauma brutally KNOCKED OUT Demsey McKean in the first round.Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury

Frampton’s harsh words

Frampton, speaking to, has now criticised the decision of Fury to pile on the pounds and accused the Gypsy King of ‘looking ridiculous’ as a result.

“I think he should have been more aggressive in the fight.

“I was disappointed with the size of him and the weight he came in at. It looked ridiculous, to be honest.

“I think because he was so heavy, it’s harder for him to carry that about and he blows out a little bit prematurely, because he’s just so big.

“I think that was an issue for him, I really do.

“Fury trains hard, I know he spars a lot, but what is he eating? How many calories is he putting in?

“Look, people are different. Some people are body beautiful and get into shape and ripped up pretty easily, some people have athletic physiques and whatever.

“But if you’re training hard twice a day, lifting weights and running and sparring, and everything else, I don’t know how you can look like that.”Tyson Fury

Money makes the world go round

Despite Fury losing for the second successive time to Usyk, I’m sure the payout would have eased the pain.

Reports suggest the total payout of the fight was £150m – an increase of £35m compared their first bout.

However, Usyk reportedly recieved a much higher pay split compared to his last fight against Fury.

This is because the Ukrainian was the defending champion and retain his titles Will there be a trilogy? Rematch clauses can often be a sticking point in big contracts for major fights.

It’s usually standard practice that in huge money-making fights a rematch clause is put down in ink.

But unfortunately for both men, that isn’t the case this time around. There is NO rematch clause in the contract so Fury will not get a third shot at Usyk’s belts.

Darren Till once showed Tyson Fury the dangers of stepping into the octagon while he was considering a career change.

Towards the end of 2019, Fury was still locked in negotiations for a rematch with Deontay Wilder, which ended up happening the following February. He made his WWE debut while recovering from a cut, and would regularly call out then-UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

He would even claim he was willing to come to the UFC to make the fight happen, although that always seemed tongue-in-cheek. And he certainly was put in his place when he sparred with then-welterweight Till, who took him down with ease during their session.

A full video was released of the light sparring and drilling that Darren Till gave to Tyson Fury during 2019. The Scouse fighter, who was just about to face Kelvin Gastelum, showed him how to sprawl and ran him through some striking exercises.

Fury looked unbelievably powerful as he threw knees and elbows, but appeared to struggle a bit with the necessary movement to stuff a takedown. He noted that he may be able to make an oncoming attacker think twice about going for the legs with his fast hands, and went through extra training.

But when it came to moving the pace up in any way, Till was well able to find the legs and take Fury down, at which point he could make it into full mount. It was remarkable to see, given the massive size difference between the pair.

At the time, Till was fighting at 170lb and likely would have had to keep his walking around weight fairly close to that after a number of gruelling cuts. Meanwhile Fury was transitioning from the 253lb he was facing Otto Wallin to over 273lb when he took on Wilder.

Now, Darren Till is fighting Tyson’s brother Tommy Fury

Five years on, and Till has agreed to a boxing fight with Tyson’s younger brother Tommy Fury. The pair announced their meeting last month with a press conference in London, and the fight is set for January in Manchester.

There appears to be no love lost between the two parties, with Till getting into a shoving match with not only Tommy but his dad John Fury at their Misfits Boxing launch event. And he has even noted that he would be willing to get disqualified and throw a kick to his rival’s head if he is losing on the night.

Anthony Joshua‘s career is on the ropes following an absolute battering from Daniel Dubois in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley Stadium.

The former two-time heavyweight champion entered the ring a sizeable favourite but was on the back foot from the opening bell, beaten to the punch by the sharper, quicker and heavier-handed Dubois.

Dubois bullied ‘AJ’ for the best part of five rounds before landing the punch of his life to end it, just after he was wobbled himself. It marked the first defence of his new IBF Heavyweight World Title and a legitimisation of his status as one of the best in the world.

Pre-fight, many were talking up an ‘AJ’ win being the path to the fight with Tyson Fury that fans have been demanding for years now. Of course, Dubois turned those plans upside down and now could find himself facing the winner of Fury’s rematch with Oleksandr Usyk later in the year.

‘The Gypsy King’ was ringside for the event and gave his immediate reaction to Queensberry Promotions.

“He [Dubois] did a fantastic job. He did a very good job and fair play to young Dan. Everybody wrote him off you know, coming here he was the world champion and everyone chatted like he was bum and he showed what he’s made of and it’s very good for him, fantastic, fair play.”
