WBC heavyweight champion Shields defends her belt against Perkins with the vacant WBA, IBF and WBO belts also on the line.

Shields (15-0, 3 KOs), Uncrowned’s No. 1 pound-for-pound women’s boxer in the world, is a five-division champion and former two-division undisputed champion, having held the undisputed super welterweight crown in 2021 and the undisputed middleweight title twice between 2019 and 2024. Shields won the WBC heavyweight title with a second-round knockout of Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse this past July.

Perkins (5-0, 2 KOs) has never been scheduled for more than eight rounds and comes into the bout as far less experienced than her championship opponent. Ben Rothwell is hoping to secure a fight with Anthony Joshua after his BKFC knockout went viral.

The 43-year-old secured the BKFC heavyweight title in brutal fashion at Knuckle Mania 5 on Saturday night.

Rothwell extended his bareknuckle boxing record to 4-0 with a 36-second knockout victory against Mick Terrill and earned $150,000.

However, ‘Big Ben’ has now revealed he is a free agent after his contract with the promotion came to an end.

Following four bareknuckle bouts, the former UFC fighter is now targeting a move to boxing with Joshua on his list of dream match-ups.

Asked about facing fellow ex-UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou, Rothwell told The Ariel Helwani Show: “Right now I’m a free agent, I very much love the BKFC, I love David Feldman and I would like to continue, even finish my career here.

“How much time have I got? Maybe a year or so, it really depends. But Francis Ngannou, Anthony Joshua, guys who beat them guys.Anthony Joshua's boxing return date revealed - Businessday NG

“To put the gloves on and prove how good at boxing I am would very much be a bucket list.

“I just don’t feel like I’ve ever gotten to show the boxing world how good of a boxer I am.”

Rolando Romero speaks to Fight Hype about Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ upcoming fight with Lamont Roach and why he believes the deck is fully stacked in Tank’s favor. Unless Tank completely bottles it, Romero sees this as a surefire win for his former opponent.

On the Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach fight

“The thing is like, Lamont Roach moving up in weight. That’s not good man, and you’re fighting a vicious puncher. And that’s not taking anything away from Lamont Roach. Lamont Roach is a tremendous fighter, it’s just the weight, man. And like I said, you’re fighting one of the hardest hitters in the sport.

“You can’t compare my fight to Gervonta with Roach’s fight because I’m another puncher.”Gervonta Davis

On if there’s any path to victory for Roach

“No…Just too much experience, too much power, big weight. Everything is in Tank’s favor…you can make a claim like ‘oh, maybe this person is a better boxer,’ but he’s not a better boxer than Tank. He’s not a bigger puncher, he’s not bigger than Tank, he’s moving up in weight so that might affect him, make him a little bit slower. Tank has a crazy ring IQ, Tank has the better legs — like you can’t make a claim for any of this stuff.

“The only thing is like Tank has an off-night, that can always happen to anyone. But you can’t make a claim for any of this stuff.”

Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn attracted plenty of attention last summer when he stated that pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather was continuing to box in exhibition contests because he wasn’t actually as rich as he likes to claim he is.

For a man that calls himself ‘Money’ those comments were never going to sit well with Floyd. As a result, once Mayweather found out that Hearn was in his home city of Las Vegas visiting a local boxing gym earlier this week, a face-to-face meeting between the pair was inevitable.

If anyone is qualified to speak about finances in modern day boxing, then it’s Hearn who fronts one of the biggest promotional companies on the planet. Mayweather, though was having none of the idea that his riches have been in any way exaggerated.

Eddie Hearn Jokes His Way Out of a Confrontation With Floyd Mayweather

‘Money’ Mayweather is believed to be worth $400 million – but Hearn doesn’t buy itFloyd Mayweather

Footage of their encounter has now emerged – and it had a surprisingly friendly tone. Floyd even admitted that “he likes Eddie” before going on to explain how he had heard about Hearn’s comments on this financial situation.

“I don’t have social media on my phone, so they showed me Eddie, and Eddie was like “Floyd Mayweather ain’t got no money, that’s why he doing exhibitions!”

Hearn has previously been very vocal about Mayweather’s financial situation, despite the two not having an official working relationship within the sport. The 45-year-old promoter has not only questioned some of Floyd’s reported income figures, but has also cast doubt over how much of whatever he has earned is left in the bank, given the American’s extravagant spending habits.

The British matchmaker isn’t the only one to pose these questions, either. In the build-up to his August 2017 mega-fight with Mayweather, UFC superstar Conor McGregor continually hinted at Floyd having trouble paying his taxes.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is one of the few fighters in boxing history to walk away from the sport with an unblemished professional record.

The 47-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan won world titles five weight divisions during his tenure, defeating the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto. His unique defensive style earned him a place as one of, if not the greatest fighter of all time.

Although he faced an array of great fighters throughout his career, ‘Money’ was once accused of ‘being afraid’ of a showdown with Antonio Margarito, which was reportedly due to happen back in 2006.

In an interview with Marca, Mayweather was asked to explain why this fight did not go ahead, as he claims he was ‘glad’ to not face the three-time world welterweight champion.Floyd Mayweather

“Antonio Margarito said over and over again that I was afraid of him. He was pressing, and he wanted to fight so badly, because he was beating fighters with loaded gloves (with ‘casts’), so I’m glad God didn’t let that fight happen.

Because you don’t know what kind of effect it would have had on me. Those (punches) would have wreaked havoc after my boxing career was over. He could have ended up killing me in the ring, you don’t know what could happen. So sometimes you have certain signals (to face fighters or not), I was never afraid of him and at that particular moment it didn’t make sense for us to fight”

Just before he was due to face Shane Mosley in a defence of his WBA light middleweight title in 2009, Margarito was found with illegally wrapped hands that had to be re-wrapped three times to make them legal. Despite this, Mosley went on to stop Margarito in the ninth round to capture the WBA title, although things could have been very different for ‘Sugar’ Shane if it wasn’t for his trainer Naazim Richardson who spotted the issue.

Claressa Shields makes history every time she steps into a boxing ring. She looks to become a three-division undisputed champion as she heads home to Flint, Michigan to face Danielle Perkins on February 2 to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Shields (15-0) is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a two-division undisputed champion. The self-proclaimed “G.W.O.A.T.” has held gold at super welterweight, middleweight, and super middleweight. She beat Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in July 2024 to win heavyweight gold, a division that hasn’t gotten much love.

Collecting gold and taking names, Shields looks to decimate Perkins, entertain family and friends, and put more gold around her waist.

“She (Perkins) is fighting against the best,” Shields said via Detroit News, “and if she comes in there and she don’t put her chin down, and she feels like she can just come out there and bully me and put her size and her weight on me and just punch me hard, and that’s going to win her the fight, she’s in for a rude awakening.”Claressa Shields

A two-time World Championships medalist, Perkins (5-0) took two years off from action and returned in 2024, winning two straight. The 42-year-old has two wins via knockout. A former St. John’s basketball player, Perkins believes she is the first real test at heavyweight for Shields.

Perkins is ready to spoil her homecoming party on a special Sunday fight night.

“If it’s going to be a dogfight, then so far, there’s going to be two dogs, and you’re not going to know who’s who,” Perkins said.

ANTHONY JOSHUA could be in line for a shock trilogy fight following Tyson Fury’s retirement.

The long overdue Battle of Britain seemingly went up in smoke earlier this month when the Fury announced his FIFTH retirement.

Team Joshua are currently exploring options for the Olympian, although they’re confident Fury can be coaxed out of his latest “retirement”.

But long-time rival Dillian Whyte is more than willing to be the Watford warrior’s next dance partner should the Gypsy King opt not to fight again.

The Brixton Bodysnatcher told  “[Joshua] Sounds perfect for me.

“They don’t need to ask me twice.anthony joshua Tyson Fury

“They talk about me as an option, but they haven’t said anything to me, so it’s just negotiation tactics from them.”

Whyte and Joshua have twice shared the ring with on another, with the first of their meetings coming the amateurs.

Whyte won the pair’s encounter back in 2009 via decision, although AJ brutally exacted his revenge six years later with seventh-round KO at the O2 Arena.

The pair, 36 and 35 respectively, were due to renew their rivalry in August 2023.

But their third encounter fell through when it emerged Whyte had failed a pre-fight drug test.Tyson fury Anthony Joshua

Riddick Bowe is a golden era heavyweight who had strong views when asked how Deontay Wilder would fair against Mike Tyson.

Bowe is a former Olympic silver medalist who turned over and soon made his mark in the pro ranks. He held the undisputed world heavyweight championship in 1992 and fought Evander Holyfield three times, beating him twice and losing once.

He famously threw his WBC heavyweight title in the bin rather than agreeing to fight Lennox Lewis and eventually retired in 2008.

Until he faced Tyson Fury and lost two of the three contests in their trilogy, former world champion Wilder was considered one of the best heavyweights on the planet and a punching machine who had stopped every man he faced. ‘Iron Mike’ had a similar record early on, stopping all of his first 19 opponents inside the sixth round.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Bowe was asked how he felt about Wilder’s claims he would knock Tyson out. Mike Tyson

“Absolutely not. I beg to differ. He throws one punch. Me and Mike have three or four-punch combinations like Holyfield. If you’re not punching like that you can forget about it. That long right hand, that one punch is not going to do it.

“Matter of fact, that man gunna gas cause Tyson’s gunna come and throw his right hand. Mike throws his right hand, what’s going to happen? He couldn’t beat Mike with that.”

Wilder has not fought since June when he was stopped inside five rounds by Zhilei Zhang, although he is slated to make his comeback in April with a view to fighting Anthony Joshua down the line.

Saul Alvarez, the current unified super middleweight champion, has had a remarkable career since his very first knockout victory against Abraham Gonzalez in 2005. He was only 15 at the time. However, after a series of victories over some formidable opponents like Jose Miguel Cotto and Shane Mosley, Canelo Alvarez faced his first professional loss against Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September 2013. Despite tasting defeat for the first time, the ‘Cinnamon’ went on to dominate the ring, winning 15 consecutive fights and securing titles across multiple weight classes. And with a victory over Jaime Mungia in May 2024, Canelo even extended his record for the most successful undisputed title defenses in the four-belt era to four.

So reflecting on that fateful night against Money Mayweather, the Guadalajara native recently opened up during a conversation on the Ring Magazine podcast. As he prepares for a potential bout with Terence Crawford later this year, he shared insights about his past experiences, including the lessons learned from his loss to Mayweather.Floyd Mayweather

ESPN’s Mike Coppinger noted that Canelo Alvarez was just 23 when he fought Floyd Mayweather at MGM Grand, Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. He mentioned that the Mexican superstar lacked the skills that come with more extensive experience. He further discussed how Alvarez had to give up weight concessions and rehydration clauses, which may or may not have impacted the fight’s outcome.

After more than 11 years, the 62-2 boxer, while acknowledging Mayweather’s superior skill and accomplishments in boxing, admitted, “He deserved the position in the moment.” He recognized that he was trying to make history himself but admitted that things didn’t unfold as planned. So the question is, what did he regret the most? The answer is clear. Reflecting on his career trajectory, Alvarez speculated that if he had fought seasoned opponents like Miguel Cotto before facing Mayweather, the outcome might have been different. “But you know, we never gonna know,” Canelo Alvarez lamented. “I learn from that fight. Things happen for a reason.”

To be honest, the fight itself was a masterclass from Floyd Mayweather. He showcased his defensive prowess and tactical brilliance to outclass Canelo over 12 rounds to claim a majority decision victory. Despite being the clear winner at the end of the contest, Judge C.J. Ross scored it a 114-114 draw, which baffled many of those in attendance, including Mayweather. Anyway, for Canelo Alvarez, this defeat became a catalyst for growth, making him the fighter he is today.Floyd Mayweather

After Floyd Mayweather’s retirement in 2017, he took up the mantle of the face of boxing. Today, as Canelo Alvarez looks at his own retirement from the sport, a couple of years down the line, who will take up the mantle next? Coppinger decided to ask Canelo who he thinks can be the next big star in boxing. And the Guadalajara native had a few names in mind.

Canelo Alvarez predicts the next generation of boxing stars

In the same interview, Alvarez pointed to two rising stars. He believed these fighters could emerge as the next faces of boxing. According to Canelo Alvarez, Ryan Garcia‘s knockout power and strong social media presence makes him highly marketable. With KingRy’s suspension ending soon in April, Garcia is set to face Rolando Romero in May at the 147 lbs division. If Garcia wins this fight, he could line up a rematch with Devin Haney, provided Haney defeats Jose Ramirez. A victory over Haney would not only bolster his previous win-turned-no-contest but also set him up for a title fight with Jaron Ennis for Ennis’ IBF welterweight title in early 2026, enhancing his claim to being the next face of boxing. And who’s the other one? It’s Gervonta Davis

A legendary coach has named a boxer who was better than Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquaio.

Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao are widely regarded as two of the greatest boxers of all time. However, legendary trainer Miguel Diaz has named a fighter he believes was better than both.

Diaz, during his career, has trained many notable names in the sport of boxing, including Mayweather and Pacquiao. However, he reckons that James Toney was a better fighter than both of them.

During his legendary career, ‘Lights Out’ gathered a record of 77-10-3 with 47 knockout wins to his name. He even holds a win against the iconic Evander Holyfield.Floyd Mayweather

Speaking to Ring Magazine, Diaz pointed out many characteristics of fighters like Mayweather and Toney. Speaking of the fighter who had the best defense, Diaz said:

He had a tremendous defense. He used his defense to hit you. It was not a defense and no punching. He used his defense and beat you. Very good fighter, very smart, fast and very good position in the ring. His defense was untouchable. He was a natural.

He picked Toney as the smartest and strongest fighter that he has ever trained, saying:

Steve Johnston was very clever in the ring. Floyd was clever. James Toney was a very smart fighter. Everything in boxing was easy for him, he was natural. You’ve got to consider James Toney that kind of fighter, you could not push him back. Also, Mike McCallum a very strong fighter.
