Anthony Joshua has not fought since September and may be out of the ring for a year all in.

The British two-time world heavyweight champion suffered his fourth loss in his last ring outing. It came in his attempt to become a three-time belt holder against Daniel Dubois, but he was stopped inside five rounds.

The well-ranked 35-year-old is now towards the end of his career having competed at the top for more than a decade. Initially, he was keen to take an immediate rematch with Dubois, but small ‘niggling’ injuries put paid to that and instead, he has sat out the last few months, maybe hoping for a titanic battle with long-time rival Tyson Fury.

However, after Fury was beaten on points, twice, in back-to-back fights with Oleksandr Usyk, which is what also happened to Joshua in 2021 and 2022, he announced his retirement which means that fight is off the table, for now at least. ‘AJ’s team hoped an early summer return fight with Dubois could still happen, but had also looked at other top contenders including Deontay Wilder, Agit Kabayel and Joseph Parker.Undefeated Heavyweight Willing To Put His Title On The Line Against Anthony Joshua Next - Seconds Out

Speaking to Ring Magazine, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has now revealed that his charge has a new injury and is now faced with pushing back his return date.

“The top half of his body, I’ll give you that. It’s nothing major, but it means he’s been returning to training but he’s not quite ready to return to camp. He needs about another eight weeks until he can punch properly so you’re looking at April, May [for training] so that leads you to the back end of summer [for a fight date.]”

Many will hope that with the extra lay-off for Joshua, Fury may reverse his retirement decision and the two Brits can finally get it on. In the meantime, the wheels of the heavyweight division will continue to turn. Parker has been ordered to face unified champion Usyk, however the Ukrainian remains targetting an undisputed showdown with Dubois.

Anthony Joshua has fought both Joseph Parker and Daniel Dubois across his impressive career.

When ‘AJ’ took on Parker in 2018, it was to unify world titles. It was a technical fight and marked the first time that Joshua was taken the full 12 rounds by anyone. He won on points and moved on but was later dethroned by last minute stand in Andy Ruiz Jr in June 2019, before winning the rematch.

Further losses against Oleksandr Usyk left him without any belts, and his bid to become three-time champion against new owner of the IBF belt, Dubois, ended in a fifth round knockout last September.

Dubois was due to fight Parker in a second defence of his title last month but fell ill and withdrew at the last minute. Instead, Parker knocked out late replacement Martin Bakole inside two rounds.

The young Brit has been questioned by some as to how serious the viral infection was, though his team shut remains adamant they had no choice but to pull out after doctor’s advice. Many fighters have competed without being at their best and loved to regret it.Anthony Joshua

Speaking to iFL TV, Joshua was asked whether it was sensible for Dubois to pull out of the fight and he absolutely agreed with his former foe’s decision.

“You’ve got to be 100% to win and defend the title. Credit to his dad, everyone needs a father figure sometimes or someone you respect to tell you listen son, don’t get in that ring unless you’re a 100%, it’s important. You’ve got to be 100%. Having a father figure, or a father in your life, a senior figure that you respect. That could have been Dubois tonight but he’s still IBF champion so he lives to fight another day.”

Dubois now has a big choice for his return to the ring. Either chase a rematch with Usyk for the undisputed, honour the voluntary defence with Parker, or possibly take a second bout with Joshua. By all accounts, he is leaning towards the four-belt clash with Usyk.

Eddie Hearn names the FIVE fighters who Anthony Joshua could face in comeback fight – after British star was ‘snubbed for Saudi showdown’

Eddie Hearn has revealed the five fighters who could face Anthony Joshua as the heavyweight star looks to return to the boxing ring later this year.

The 35-year-old has not fought since his comprehensive loss to Daniel Dubois last year, where was knocked out by his compatriot in front of 96,000 fans at Wembley.

In a turn of events, last month, he was tipped to step in and replace Dubois after he fell ill and was forced to pull out of his bout against Joseph Parker in Riyadh.

Reports claimed at the time that Joshua was not considered as a late replacement option for Dubois, despite being in Riyadh at the time.

Perhaps that’s because he already has his sights on another bout after promoter Hearn revealed the five-name shortlist of boxers who could face Joshua.Anthony Joshua

Speaking  ‘Daniel Dubois still [is the frontrunner]. In an ideal world, he will fight [Tyson] Fury, if not Dubois.

‘There is also Joseph Parker, who I think would be a great fight, there is Agit Kabayel and Deontay Wilder, obviously [Turki Alalshikh] has stated he would love to see that fight.

‘I guess the [Martin] Bakole fight is still there, but he would probably get criticised if he fought Bakole, so less likely.’

The potential fight that would generate the most interest among British fans is undoubtedly Joshua vs Fury.

But Fury announced his retirement last month with immediate effect on the heels of his second defeat by Usyk in December of last year.

Last month, Joshua gave an intriguing reply when asked about his future in the ring when he was interviewed ringside at the Beterviev vs Bivol II card.

When questioned on his future, Joshua said: ‘More fights, this is my life, this is what I do. Right now I sit outside and I watch and then I’ll make my return one day. Anthony Joshua

‘I sit back as a fan and watch the great people in the sport I love.’

Joshua, 35, won the first 22 fights of his professional career, before losing his WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweight titles in a shock defeat by Andy Ruiz Junior in June 2019.

The Watford-born fighter bounced back by beating Ruiz in a rematch six months later but he has since lost twice to Oleksandr Usyk, before being knocked out by Daniel Dubois in his most recent fight in September last year.

Joshua won four fights against relatively easier opposition between his rematch defeat by Usyk and last year’s loss to Dubois.

Anthony Joshua is looking to plot his way back to the top of the heavyweight division one more time.

Joshua has been a huge star on the world scene over the last decade. His journey started soon after winning a gold medal in the London Olympics and he rose quickly through the pro ranks, collecting world honours on the way.

His first title came in 2016 when he beat Charles Martin inside two rounds for the IBF belt, and then unified against Wladimir Klitschko in an epic battle at Wembley Stadium which involved both men being knocked down.

He added the WBO title with a points win in 2018 when he was taken the distance for the first time by Joseph Parker, and since then there have been plenty of ups and downs.

In June 2019 he took his first loss when he was stopped by late stand-in Andy Ruiz, but won the belts back in a rematch later that year.

In 2021 and 2022, he went into back-to-back fights with Oleksandr Usyk and came out with no belts after losing both contests on points.

Following another rebuild he went into another world title shot against Daniel Dubois in September 2024 but was stopped inside five rounds, and is currently on the sidelines waiting to make his next move.

Speaking to The Ariel Helwani Show, it was put to Parker, who is the interim WBO champion, that a Joshua rematch was a good option now given that Usyk and Dubois are likely to pursue an undisputed fight.

“Let’s push for it. I agree. As we focus on my career, I think those three names will be next in line. I think [Joshua] would accept the fight with me. It would be a very different fight to 2018. We’re both older, maturer, wiser. The fighter that I was before, sometimes I look back and go ‘who is that guy?’”

Whoever beats Parker – who recently knocked out late replacement opponent Martin Bakole in two rounds – will become the WBO number one and first in line for a shot against current champion Usyk.

The one fight Joshua and the rest of the boxing world wanted to see was against Tyson Fury, but he retired at the end of January after his own pair of losses to Usyk.

Anthony Joshua has risen two places in the latest Ring Magazine heavyweight rankings.

The Watford powerhouse hasn’t stepped foot in the ring since being flattened by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in September.

However, he has moved up from No.7 to No.5 in the heavyweight top 10 following Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole’s defeats last weekend on the Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol II undercard.

Zhang was stopped by a sickening body shot from Agit Kabayel in the sixth round of their WBC ‘interim’ heavyweight clash.

Meanwhile, Bakole got knocked out by a clubbing blow from Joseph Parker that caught him on the top of the head.

The Congolese heavyweight stepped in to replace Daniel Dubois on two days’ notice and embarked on a 3,800 mile trip from Congo to Saudi Arabia that required three connecting flights.

Bakole received significant praise from the boxing fraternity for taking the fight despite the seemingly insurmountable odds stacked against him, although the defeat did cost him dearly.

Not only did he lose the IBF final eliminator status for his upcoming clash with Efe Ajagba but he also dropped one place in the Ring Magazine rankings.

Bakole was placed No.6 in the previous ratings while Zhang was ranked No.4.

As a result of their recent setbacks, Bakole fell to No.7 and Zhang plummeted to No.6.

Kabayel rose from No.5 to No.4 after his career-best win, with AJ slotting in one position behind the German.

Parker and every other heavyweight remained in their original positions.

Anthony Joshua knows the ‘menace’ of Joseph Parker and will not want a rematch, says the New Zealander’s promoter David Higgins.

Joshua was watching from ringside as Parker produced a ruthless knockout victory over Martin Bakole, who stepped in as a replacement opponent after Daniel Dubois was ruled out through illness.

Parker’s promoter Higgins believes the Dubois vs Parker fight might not be rescheduled, but has raised doubts about whether Joshua will instead take a rematch with the Kiwi.

“Joe would jump in with AJ in heartbeat but I reckon AJ wouldn’t take the fight,” Higgins told Sky Sports. That’s my view.

“I think AJ is a nice guy and he’s had a good career but I think in recent times he hasn’t looked comfortable in the ring, particularly in that last fight. He didn’t want to be there.

“The way that Joseph is fighting, it would be a very risky call by him and his handlers to jump in the ring with Parker. Most boxers take the lower risk option, except for Joseph Parker. He takes the highest risk and the toughest option.”

Parker was beaten on points by Joshua in their first fight in 2018, but the former WBO world champion is enjoying the most impressive spell of his career, with recent wins over Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Bakole.

“I think fight by fight, the last three, Joseph is establishing more credibility, more menace and fight by fight, they will all be going, ‘This fighter is dangerous.’

“After the other day, they’ll all be going, ‘He really is dangerous.”

“We’ll see what happens next. We’ll wait and see what the Saudi authorities and Queensberry offer next and we’ll go from there.

“Joseph would like to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Four months. He doesn’t mess around, he just wants to keep going.

“Anywhere, it would be ideal in the summer.”

The WBO announced Parker as the mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk after his win over Martin Bakole.

But Usyk, who has confirmed that he will retire after two more fights, is expected to take a rematch against Dubois for the undisputed world heavyweight titles.

“I think that [unification] makes sense, because unification establishes the no 1 boxer,” said Higgins.

“That’s the way it should be. As much as we’d like the Dubois fight next, I think unification is good for the sport and I would expect that to happen.

“There would be a lot of money and there’s a lot of glory, but egos and politics get in the way.

“If it falls over, Joseph will be front of the queue to fight either Dubois or Usyk and would happily come to the ring with either of them in two months’ time.”

Saudi boxing supremo Turki Alalshikh has disclosed he’s been in contact with Tyson Fury, the two-time heavyweight champion who shocked fans by announcing his retirement last month.

In a social media video, Fury declared: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast, I’ve loved every single minute of it. I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side. Get up!”

Fury’s announcement followed back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk, leaving many to mourn the missed opportunity for a much-anticipated bout with Anthony Joshua. Now, Joshua is in search of a new opponent, but Alalshikh hasn’t given up hope on arranging the all-British clash.

Speaking to The Stomping Ground, Alalshikh said: “I want Tyson [next for Joshua]. I spoke with him, but I don’t talk about boxing. I just check about his health and his family. I think maybe he’ll return. Yes, [I think he will return], I hope so.”

British boxing sensation Anthony Joshua, commonly known as ‘AJ’, is keen to step back into the ring for a monumental bout with Tyson Fury following his knockout loss to Daniel Dubois last September. Discussing the potential clash, Joshua expressed to iFL TV his eagerness for the fight: “I feel like it’s the best fight [for me].” He added: “People might say [Joseph] Parker, people might say – I don’t know. But I think Fury, commercially, is a great fight and it’s a great man’s fight as well. So I think it makes sense. You could say it’s been years in the making. But listen, the heavyweight division has been thriving.”

Undaunted by the prospects of facing ‘Gypsy King’, Joshua boldly stated, “And why I say it’s probably still a great fight is as I said Parker is, for me, a great story of someone that never gives up. And the thing is, there is going to be one winner and one loser. And there’s going to be bloodshed. And it ain’t gonna be mine.”

In an unrelated note, last week, Fury shared on Instagram his breakfast encounter with football icon Sir Alex Ferguson in Cheshire, capturing the moment with a photograph alongside the caption: “legends of different games! #BREKFAST.” shared with his multitude of social media followers.

It came hours after Top Rank’s COO Brad Jacobs speculated on the heavyweight champion’s possible return from retirement for a clash with Joshua. Discussing the prospective bout with Sky Sports, Jacobs remarked: “He looks like he’s happy retired and doing it, but he’s done that before. He looks like he’s happy retired and doing it, but he’s done that before. But if not God bless him, he’s earned what he’s got. I believe there is the potential for it. What happens nobody knows. Tyson has done shocking things before, and it wouldn’t surprise me if he did it again.”

On the 13th of January 2025, Tyson Fury announced his retirement from professional boxing, just weeks on from the second loss of his career in the rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury’s retirement came as a huge shock to the boxing world as at the time he announced it, he and his team were actively involved in finally getting a deal done to face Anthony Joshua which has been years in the making.

Given Fury’s history of announcing his retirement and going back on his word many times, it is hard to know whether to take his words with a pinch of salt or to believe him as ‘The Gypsy King’ is one of the most unpredictable fighters in boxing history. Despite Fury’s future in boxing being up in the air, ‘AJ’ is as motivated as ever to finally get the huge all-British clash over the line after years of talk and speculation.

Even though Tyson Fury announced his retirement from boxing over a month ago, Anthony Joshua is still determined to step into the ring with ‘The Gypsy King.’ Joshua vs Fury has been talked about for many years but still hasn’t happened, mainly due to typical boxing politics and money differences between the two teams, but with Turki Alalshikh’s presence in boxing right now, he could be the man to finally get the fight over the line.

Speaking to IFL TV, Joshua said the following:

“I feel like it’s the best fight (for me.) People might say (Joseph) Parker, people might say, I don’t know. But I think Fury, commercially, is a great fight and it’s a great man’s fight as well. So I think it makes sense. You could say it’s been years in the making. But listen, the heavyweight division has been thriving. And the thing is, there is going to be one winner and one loser and there’s going to be bloodshed. And it ain’t gonna be mine.”

Joshua is right, the heavyweight division right now is in a very exciting spot given the recent success of Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker as well as the rise of several new prospects such as Martin Bakole, however, a fight between two veterans such as ‘AJ’ and Fury would still be a huge bout and many people around the world would watch it.

Last week, in an interview with IFL TV, Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn revealed that he is ready to give Tyson Fury an ultimatum regarding a potential future fight against Anthony Joshua. While speaking to IFL TV, Hearn revealed he may conversate with ‘The Gypsy King’ in the coming weeks and believes that if he wants to come out of retirement “now is the time to do it.”

“Maybe there’s a conversation in a week or two weeks or three weeks time where we say to Fury, ‘just to let you know, you don’t wanna fight AJ, in the summer, or August, September, because if you want to come out of retirement, now is the time to do it’.”

Leaked footage of Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk reacting live to Joseph Parker’s brutal second-round knockout win over Martin Bakole has gone viral on social media.

Parker was originally supposed to fight Daniel Dubois, and the two resurgent heavyweights had generated excitement for their participation in the Riyadh Season event that took place on the 22nd of February, with Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev in the main event. Dubois, though, withdrew citing illness, which was an absence that left organizers scrambling for a late-replacement opponent. The fighter who boxing financier Turki Alalshikh drafted in, Bakole, ensured there was no hype lost as the heavyweight, in his last fight, halted the ascendance of Jared Anderson by thumping him into smithereens last summer.

Joshua, who defeated Parker in 2018, and Usyk, the unified heavyweight champion, watched with interest from ringside as Parker beat Bakole down and out for good.

As Parker put his fight-finishing punches together, Usyk and Joshua — watching from ringside sitting next to each other — sensed early drama was about to unfold and reacted hilariously, like they were excitable kids watching the sport with fresh eyes, and seeing a live knockout for the very first time.

Parker, without question, scored the knockout of the night. His co-feature win over Bakole preceded an electric main event between master light heavyweight fighters Bivol and Beterbiev, with the former scoring a revenge win over the latter. Though a trilogy fight is a logical bout to make next, Bivol could be enticed should Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez pursue a lucrative rematch with him. Canelo has hinted in the past that a second Bivol fight, between 168 and 175 pounds, is a preferential option for him over fighting David Benavidez.

Earlier in the show, Vergil Ortiz scored a career-defining win with a decision over Israil Madrimov, and Carlos Adames and Hamzah Sheeraz were inseparable, with judges offering a split draw for the middleweight fight.

Tyson Fury could still return to the ring for a showdown with Anthony Joshua, Turki Alalshikh has revealed.

The Gypsy King announced his retirement from the sport last month aged 36.

Fury ended his career with a professional record of 34-2-1, his final fights seeing him record back-to-back decision losses to Oleksandr Usyk.

He’s enjoyed a stellar career however, a highly-anticipated bout against Joshua never materialised.

Alalshikh has now hinted the fight could still happen in the future despite Fury hanging up his gloves.

Speaking on Saturday at the Artur Beterbiev vs Dmitry Bivol event, he confirmed he remains hopeful Fury will make a comeback.

Alalshikh told The Stomping Ground, as quoted by Ring Magazine: “I want Joshua vs Tyson… I spoke with (Fury) but not about boxing. I think he maybe will return.”

The hopes are despite Fury telling fans his career was over as recently as January.

In a video shared to social media, the former heavyweight world champion said: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet.

“I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast.

“I’ve loved every single minute of it, and I’m going to end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. See you all on the other side.”

Meanwhile, Joshua has been out of the ring since suffering his fourth professional loss in September.

The Brit was knocked out by Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium in their IBF title bout.

Joshua, who now has a 28-4 record, remains keen to return to action, though.

Having watched ringside as Joseph Parker beat Martin Bakole on Saturday night, he admitted he had been keen to step in to replace Dubois on late notice.

Bakole was beaten on short notice after the IBF champion was forced to withdraw through illness.

Joshua’s hopes of a rematch with Parker were denied by ‘injuries’, however, the 35-year-old confirmed.

Praising Bakole, he told DAZN: “He’s a fighter, that’s what he’s supposed to do. I wanted to step in, I got my injuries.”

Parker, meanwhile, called for a bout with Usyk after his victory at the Kingdom Arena.

The Ukrainian has yet to schedule his next fight after securing a second win over Fury in their rematch in December.
