Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis have a complex relationship.
At the tail-end of his own stellar professional campaign, Mayweather served as ‘Tank’s mentor and promoter, guiding his early days in the sport. They eventually parted ways with Davis seeking more independence and control.
That split brought with is plenty of back and forth jabs delivered through interviews and social media. Despite some respect shown every now and then, the pair recently seemed to hit an all time low in terms of respect for one another.
It makes talk of fantasy fight all the more intriguing. Both are strategic and calculated, though defensive master Mayweather would often fight in stark contrast to the power-punching Davis.
Where they don’t differ is unwavering confident, and that was apparent when ‘Tank’ was asked by ES News how a fight with his former mentor would go.
“Spanking.”
Although the fight will remain a fantasy, ‘Tank’s co-trainer Kenny Ellis recently called for it to happen.
“Gervonta Davis could decode the shoulder roll. If Floyd can fight another exhibition, he can fight another fight. If he’s [as] great as he says he is, let’s stop spinning the fans – Gervonta vs. Floyd.”
