Oleksandr Usyk is set for a second shot at undisputed in winning back the title he should never have lost outside the ring.

World Boxing News understands that a rematch with Daniel Dubois is now Turki Alalshikh’s number-one choice following last weekend’s action in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. With all four titles at stake, the clash could happen in the region or the United Kingdom by June.

Dubois was freed up by a bout of illness suffered during the build-up to Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2, where the Londoner was forced to pull out of a battle with Joseph Parker. The February 22 event went on without ‘DDD,’ who was one of two fighters who eventually cried off the card.

Usyk and Dubois could now meet for the second time following a knockout by the Ukrainian in August 2023 that came with a touch of controversy over a low blow. Dubois thought he’d put Usyk on the canvas, only for the referee to call a foul. Usyk then took several minutes to get himself together.

UK fans wanted Dubois to be declared the fight’s winner via KO after Usyk had defeated Anthony Joshua twice. Authorities ruled in favor of Usyk, who won via TKO and beat another Briton, Tyson Fury, in a second double triumph.

The heavyweight division has since become cloudy as mandates pile up, with only Dubois getting his shot when Joe Joyce, Zhilei Zhang, Parker, and, more recently, Agit Kabayel have all held interim titles.

A most likely scenario for Alalshikh to devise is a heavyweight double-header, which would see Usyk vs. Dubois accompanied by Parker vs. Kabayel in a semi-final, much like the Day of Reckoning card that ruined fans’ chances of seeing Deontay Wilder vs. Joshua in 2024.

Parker is already unhappy that he missed out on facing Dubois for the IBF title. The New Zealander will be even more annoyed that Dubois could now make a diversion and face Usyk for all the gold.

Discussing the situation in Saudi Arabia, Parker said, “I think there’s going to be a fight with Usyk and Dubois lined up because everyone is talking about it now. Possibly, I’ll have one more fight [likely Kabayel] before fighting for the world championship. It sucks not fighting for the world championship.

“Since I lost it [the WBO title he won against Andy Ruiz] in 2018, I’ve been working hard to get back to fighting for the title. To get a chance to fight for it [the IBF title], it vanishes in front of you two days before the fight. At that time, I didn’t care. I was focused on the fight date and staying switched on for whoever was going to be in front of me. Now the [Bakole] fight is done, it doesn’t feel right,” he added.

The added pressure of having two interim champions, Parker [WBO] and Kabayel [WBC], gives Alalshikh an easy option to appease two of the sanctioning bodies.

Being a young, rising, and black tennis star is not an easy job.

Ask Coco Gauff who’s previously echoed that “sometimes you do stick out like a sore thumb. Like in the Black community, tennis is not a huge thing. Nobody really knew anything about it.” But there’s always inspiration to seek in order to focus on your goals. For the 2023 US Open winner, the sources of motivation while growing and taking up tennis were the 30-time combined Slam champions Venus and Serena Williams. But it’s not just their on-court aura that has encouraged Gauff in her career. She’s even taken up the amazing hairstyles of them while infusing her own creative touch.

It’s Black History Month and Gauff couldn’t have chosen a better occasion to express her feelings as a black tennis player representing her community. The World No.3 and 2024 WTA Finals champion took to Instagram to reveal her special collaboration with Carol’s Daughter to celebrate Black History Month. Since her deal with the brand in April 2024, Gauff has been part of its various campaigns but the latest one is special. Being a huge fan of the Williams sisters, Gauff decided to pay “homage” to them with her new hairstyle, having beaded cornrows. In a clip shared on her IG, dated February 25, she said, “I remember obviously watching Venus and Serena when I was young. This look is kind of an homage to them.”

“They’ve always changed their hair. They had the beads, they had the braids, they had the curls, they had straight, they had everything.” Surely they had. Remember how, when the two sisters began their careers in the early 2000s, they made headlines with their beaded hairstyles?

Take for example Serena’s 1999 US Open campaign. En route to her maiden Slam victory, she turned heads with a look having white and yellow beads in her hair. The same was the case with Venus Williams, who sported beads for the majority of her career on the court. While they became a style statement, she once faced trouble because of them. Back in 1999, during the Australian Open QF against Lindsay Davenport, some of Venus’ beads fell on the ground. It happened when she jumped to serve the ball. The chair umpire then handed her a point penalty for causing disturbance. But she didn’t believe her beads acted as a means to distract her opponent. Later, she continued to flaunt them in subsequent events too.

Emphasizing how she was moved by the Williams sisters’ looks, Gauff added, “When I became more aware of what I wanted to do with my hair, I was taking inspiration and taking note of what they were doing with their hair.” Reflecting on her black heritage, she further remarked, “I think, as a Black woman especially in a predominantly white sport, you’re obviously very aware of your hair and how it’s perceived. I remember thinking, ‘Is it too Black? Is it too much? Is it too much color?’”

Apart from paying tribute to her idols, Gauff also uses her hairstyle as a way of “self-expression”. She made it evident on a previous occasion.

Remember how Coco Gauff sported the box braids when she burst onto the tennis scene at the 2019 Wimbledon? But prior to the 2023 US Open, she switched the style to fit the cornrows in her hair. “Honestly, I wanted to try this and I got tired of braids all the time. I like to change up my hair,” she said. “I’ve tried color in the past with the braids and everything, but I just needed something different.”

After she signed a multi-year partnership with Carol’s Daughter last season, it opened endless opportunities for her to experiment with her hair. Another reason to join the brand was its focus on uplifting black beauty. “I was using Carol’s Daughter’s products for years before this opportunity came to me,” she said, as reported by PopSugar in April 2024. “As I’ve matured, I’ve started learning to embrace my hair more, and working with this brand felt like perfect alignment. It was founded by a Black woman with an emphasis on family, and given how close I am to mine, this partnership just felt authentic to me.”

Revealing the idea behind changing her styles, Gauff explained, “Whether it’s box braids, twists, or my natural hair, it’s a form of self-expression that I’m really proud of, especially because you still don’t see it very often in our sport.”

But what about tennis? Well, the 2024 Australian Open semifinalist is yet to find her form this season. After crashing out of Melbourne last month, in the QF stage, her journey in 2025 isn’t going smoothly. At the Qatar Open earlier this month, she couldn’t move past the first round. Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk beat her with a score line of 6-2, 7-5. Then at the Dubai Tennis Championships, last week, she failed to impress yet again, losing to compatriot McCartney Kessler in straight sets again, by 6-4, 7-5 to be precise.

On the 13th of January 2025, Tyson Fury announced his retirement from professional boxing, just weeks on from the second loss of his career in the rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.

Fury’s retirement came as a huge shock to the boxing world as at the time he announced it, he and his team were actively involved in finally getting a deal done to face Anthony Joshua which has been years in the making.

Given Fury’s history of announcing his retirement and going back on his word many times, it is hard to know whether to take his words with a pinch of salt or to believe him as ‘The Gypsy King’ is one of the most unpredictable fighters in boxing history. Despite Fury’s future in boxing being up in the air, ‘AJ’ is as motivated as ever to finally get the huge all-British clash over the line after years of talk and speculation.

Even though Tyson Fury announced his retirement from boxing over a month ago, Anthony Joshua is still determined to step into the ring with ‘The Gypsy King.’ Joshua vs Fury has been talked about for many years but still hasn’t happened, mainly due to typical boxing politics and money differences between the two teams, but with Turki Alalshikh’s presence in boxing right now, he could be the man to finally get the fight over the line.

Speaking to IFL TV, Joshua said the following:

“I feel like it’s the best fight (for me.) People might say (Joseph) Parker, people might say, I don’t know. But I think Fury, commercially, is a great fight and it’s a great man’s fight as well. So I think it makes sense. You could say it’s been years in the making. But listen, the heavyweight division has been thriving. And the thing is, there is going to be one winner and one loser and there’s going to be bloodshed. And it ain’t gonna be mine.”

Joshua is right, the heavyweight division right now is in a very exciting spot given the recent success of Daniel Dubois and Joseph Parker as well as the rise of several new prospects such as Martin Bakole, however, a fight between two veterans such as ‘AJ’ and Fury would still be a huge bout and many people around the world would watch it.

Last week, in an interview with IFL TV, Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn revealed that he is ready to give Tyson Fury an ultimatum regarding a potential future fight against Anthony Joshua. While speaking to IFL TV, Hearn revealed he may conversate with ‘The Gypsy King’ in the coming weeks and believes that if he wants to come out of retirement “now is the time to do it.”

“Maybe there’s a conversation in a week or two weeks or three weeks time where we say to Fury, ‘just to let you know, you don’t wanna fight AJ, in the summer, or August, September, because if you want to come out of retirement, now is the time to do it’.”

Gervonta Davis was an established world champion but was still to emerge from Floyd Mayweather’s shadow when he flew to London to defend his IBF super-featherweight title against Liam Walsh in May 2017.

A recent investment in boxing by TNT Sport – then BT Sport – and Frank Warren’s Queensberry Promotions had contributed to the move to showcase not only one of the world’s most exciting young fighters but, in his mentor Mayweather – then still an active fighter – one of the world’s very biggest names.

Walsh, then 31 and in his prime, had built his reputation when, in not dissimilar circumstances, in 2011 he defeated Paul Appleby in an exciting fight to launch the often-missed BoxNation.

Walsh was badly hurt in round three

JUST IN: Martin Bakole: ‘I’m Still The Boogeyman, That Punch Came From Nowhere’

He had since continued to improve into a world-level fighter and, at a time when Davis was yet to truly be tested, was widely considered capable of either dethroning him or, in the event of defeat, proving he was the real thing.

When Davis and Mayweather first flew to London to promote the upcoming fight at the Copper Box Arena, Mayweather, inevitably, had other commitments to fulfil. One involved him charging fans £100 for photos at a speaking engagement having shown up late after prioritising extra sleep. At another date the van his team used was set alight; he was also interviewed by Rio Ferdinand for BT Sport.

Come fight week Davis cut a quiet figure while Mayweather, partly owing to a spat with the composed Walsh, continued to dominate what was unfolding. It was on fight night at the Copper Box that Davis, indifferent to the hostile atmosphere created by the Cromer-based Walsh’s fans, instead finally outshone his attention-seeking promoter by walking to the ring dressed like Michael Jackson to the strains of Beat It, and then by so clinically stopping Walsh in under three rounds.

“I’d rather have got knocked clean out,” Walsh, rescued on his feet by the referee Michael Alexander, told talkSPORT.

“I’d have felt better. [But] in hindsight, looking back, I were never gonna beat him, because my defence weren’t good enough. He hadn’t been down the stretch at that point – he’d knocked [Eusebio] Pedraza out in the seventh [round].

“I was thinking, ‘I can potentially get to him – he’s a young kid – get him frustrated where he’s swinging and getting annoyed’. He was trying to goad me and he was talking to me. He kept going, ‘You’re an amateur; you’re an amateur’.

“He needed more action – he was the star attraction. My mentality was frustrate him, get him swinging – get him a bit wild.

“He might have lost his composure quite easily, and then down the stretch, [I’d] really switch it completely and be really aggressive with him instead – so push him back and bang away at his body. Pull his head down; hit him low; do all the things you need to to try and grind him down.

“But in hindsight, looking back and looking at his career and how he’s gone and seeing his fights, that wouldn’t have happened [even if I’d survived the opening rounds]. What would have happened is I’d have tried switching it, and he’d have punched the fuck out of me. But I’d have rather that. The way it ended didn’t sit right with me for years.

“As a fighter, ‘Just let me get knocked out’. That’s a fighting mentality. At least it’s a full-stop ending. When you’re not completely done, you [still] feel like you’ve got a one per cent chance.”

Mayweather had joined Davis in the ring to give him instructions, pre-fight, even though Davis’ corner was led by his long-term trainer Calvin Ford – a fellow resident of Baltimore and the real-life inspiration for Cutty, the boxing trainer in The Wire. He was also once again the centre of attention at the post-fight press conference, where the likelihood of him fighting Conor McGregor was close to the only topic discussed.

“The first punch buzzed me,” Walsh recalls of the then-22-year-old who so impressively proved his maturity and temperament.

“The next four or five were round the back of the head. He then rushed at me, on the ropes – I’m leaning on the side, my feet are all over the place, my hands are up, punches are scuffing all around me, and Mike Alexander made probably the correct decision. I was probably gonna get absolutely hammered.”

Since that night, and partly because of it, Davis has unquestionably evolved as a fighter. If the mid-fight attempts to unnerve Walsh were something he learned from Mayweather, Davis, who after a gradual deterioration in their relationship split from his then-promoter last year, has become similarly provocative in the build-up to his fights.

“I didn’t get the sense he felt particularly bad about making Ryan [Garcia, whom he beat in 2023] wait,” said Showtime’s Stephen Espinoza of the press conference at which Davis arrived two hours late.

Though Garcia retained a professional exterior, Espinoza witnessed enough to detect that Davis had got under Garcia’s skin. “There was some gamesmanship there – a little bit of mental warfare,” he continued, to talkSPORT.

“This was the first time that these guys had been together in an official setting, so it would not be unusual or unexpected for there to be some psychological warfare, and if making someone wait for an hour was intended to get some sort of reaction…

“This was the first opportunity that either of them had to start positioning, psychologically.

“Ryan was definitely frustrated, as was his team – and rightly so. There was more frustration expressed behind the scenes than was maybe evident to the public – at the amount of time that had passed before he showed up.”

In the end Davis again showed why he is arguably boxing’s draw by dropping his opponent in the seventh round for an impressive win.

Since then he has beaten Frank Martin and will defend his WBA lightweight title against Lamont Roach in New York City on 1 March.

However, there might not be many more knockouts to look forward to given his retirement plan, with fans having hopes of seeing him share the ring with one of  Vasyl Lomachenko and Shakur Stevenson.

Davis had shocked boxing by announcing his intention to walk away from the sport in 2025. Recently, though, he has admitted to re-thinking that decision, admitting it could be more of a break than walking away for good.

Being viewed as the boogeyman of any division is an honor. In layman’s terms, it means that you are the uncrowned king, the man no one wants to face, and arguably the best fighter around.

Martin Bakole earned that moniker. He’s always been impressive throughout his career but a fifth-round stoppage win over Jared Anderson on the Terence Crawford vs. Israil Madrimov bill last August pushed him over the edge in the minds of many.
This past weekend, however, a bit of shine may have been wiped from his name. Although he had just 48 hours and needless to say, zero time to prepare, Bakole stepped in to take on Joseph Parker for the WBO interim heavyweight title.

While it wasn’t ideal, countless fans and fighters believed he could get it done. Ultimately, they were wrong.
Bakole’s night went about as bad as possible. Following a fairly even first round, the 33-year-old was brutally stopped in the second. Now, whispers of Bakole (21-2, 16 KOs) being vulnerable are running rampant. Nevertheless, for those who believe he should no longer be feared, Bakole thinks otherwise.

“I’m still the boogeyman,” said Bakole to Seconds Out immediately after.

There was some irony associated with the way things played out. Moments before he hit the canvas, Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) landed a picture-perfect right hand. Once it connected, Bakole paused, shook his head and continued moving forward. Seconds later, another shot placed him on the deck.

The critics that have come out the woodwork aren’t making a ton of sense to Bakole. Not only did he have no time to prepare, but also wants everyone to take a closer look at how things played out. He stopped short of calling it fluky but did reveal that it was the sort of blow that’s hard to defend against.

“The punch came from nowhere. This always happens to everyone,” he added.

Leaked footage of Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk reacting live to Joseph Parker’s brutal second-round knockout win over Martin Bakole has gone viral on social media.

Parker was originally supposed to fight Daniel Dubois, and the two resurgent heavyweights had generated excitement for their participation in the Riyadh Season event that took place on the 22nd of February, with Dmitry Bivol and Artur Beterbiev in the main event. Dubois, though, withdrew citing illness, which was an absence that left organizers scrambling for a late-replacement opponent. The fighter who boxing financier Turki Alalshikh drafted in, Bakole, ensured there was no hype lost as the heavyweight, in his last fight, halted the ascendance of Jared Anderson by thumping him into smithereens last summer.

Joshua, who defeated Parker in 2018, and Usyk, the unified heavyweight champion, watched with interest from ringside as Parker beat Bakole down and out for good.

As Parker put his fight-finishing punches together, Usyk and Joshua — watching from ringside sitting next to each other — sensed early drama was about to unfold and reacted hilariously, like they were excitable kids watching the sport with fresh eyes, and seeing a live knockout for the very first time.

Parker, without question, scored the knockout of the night. His co-feature win over Bakole preceded an electric main event between master light heavyweight fighters Bivol and Beterbiev, with the former scoring a revenge win over the latter. Though a trilogy fight is a logical bout to make next, Bivol could be enticed should Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez pursue a lucrative rematch with him. Canelo has hinted in the past that a second Bivol fight, between 168 and 175 pounds, is a preferential option for him over fighting David Benavidez.

Earlier in the show, Vergil Ortiz scored a career-defining win with a decision over Israil Madrimov, and Carlos Adames and Hamzah Sheeraz were inseparable, with judges offering a split draw for the middleweight fight.

Tiger Woods made his return to competition on Tuesday, two weeks after the death of his mother, as Jupiter Links Golf Club lost 10-3 to New York Golf Club in the TGL.

The 15-time major winner, who founded the part-virtual league alongside Rory McIlroy, walked out alongside 16-year-old son Charlie before the event at SoFi Center, where Kultida Woods last watched her son play on January 27.

Woods withdrew from the Genesis Invitational last week, telling ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt ahead of Tuesday’s TGL event that he was still working through his emotions.

“It’s a process,” he said. “This was the last time she ever watched me play, so it was a bit emotional coming in here tonight.

“(Teammates) Kis (Kevin Kisner) and TK (Tom Kim), they gave me huge hugs.”

Woods also reflected on his mother’s support for his career in golf: “She was a hard lady. Very disciplined, very hard. She was very direct about her feelings, her emotions – she’d let you know either way.

“But she was always so supportive of me going out there and playing. It was incredible.”

Jupiter struggled on Tuesday, with New York picking up three points on the first three holes – more than the team had managed across its first two matches combined.

From then onwards, Rickie Fowler, Matt Fitzpatrick and Cameron Young never looked back, stretching New York’s lead to 8-0 after eight holes as the likes of New York Mets first baseman Pete Alonso and Yankees legend CC Sabathia watched on from the stands.

The 9th and 10th holes saw Jupiter pull back three points, but a mix-up for Woods on hole 13 summed up the team’s game.

After a tee shot left Woods 199 yards from the hole, caddie Rob McNamara told him “99,” dropping the first number as is often the case when caddies feel the yardage is obvious.

Woods then proceeded to choose a wedge and hit his next shot 99 yards – 100 shy of the target – prompting Kisner and Kim to drop to the floor in fits of laughter.

“I heard 99 yards, and so I went out there and hit it 100 yards,” smiled Woods afterwards. “One of the most embarrassing moments in my golfing career just happened!”

It is not likely to get any easier for Jupiter in its next event, with the team set to face The Bay Golf Club, which is unbeaten and leads the league, on February 25.

New York is next in action against Los Angeles on February 24.

Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens are finally off enjoying their honeymoon.

Biles and Owens were married in April 2023, but didn’t have time to get away until now. Biles, of course, was preparing for the 2024 Paris Olympics, and Owens was busy with his career as an NFL defensive back. Well, the Olympics are in the past, and Owens is in the middle of the offseason, so now the two can enjoy warm weather and each other’s company.

Biles has been sharing content from the trip on social media. This weekend, she’s going viral for a photo of herself in a cheetah-print bikini posing poolside.
