Boxing fans can finally see a picture of what would happen in a fantasy fight between Floyd Mayweather and Gervonta Davis.

Mayweather is considered one of the greatest boxers of all-time, retiring with a perfect professional record of 50 wins from 50 fights and has since passed his expertise on to the next generation.

That includes undefeated champion Davis, who he mentored in the professional ranks en route to reaching the pinnacle of the lightweight division.

Naturally, many fans wonder what would have happened if the pair had have both fought in their primes given their immense talent.

‘TBE’ taught his apprentice all he needed to know in the sport, but the pair have since split with Davis moving on from his promotional outfit.

The American fighters have even feuded on social media, and are no longer on the best of terms, with Davis even calling out Mayweather for a surprise fight.

It would be an intriguing clash of styles with Mayweather carrying a one-of-a-kind elite skillset, while Davis possesses more raw punching power.

And boxing video game Undisputed has played host to a simulation of the pair battling, in a unique match-up.

Mayweather started the stronger as many would expect, given the star regularly dictated the tempo of exchanges during his professional career.

The two are never shy of speaking out

The relationship between boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis once seemed unbreakable. Often compared to a father-son dynamic, the bond they shared has since unraveled. Tension surfaced when Davis accused Mayweather of banning him from his gym during training for his 2023 showdown against Ryan Garcia. Though Davis officially parted ways with Mayweather Promotions in 2022, Mayweather publicly claimed he had no hard feelings. But soon after, Davis began openly criticizing his former mentor, accusing him of unresolved financial issues in Dubai. The situation has only escalated since then, with both sides throwing subtle jabs at each other.

Now, as Davis continues to shine in the ring, his coaches are speaking out about Mayweather’s actions and raising concerns over his decision to reportedly bar Davis from his training facility at such a critical time.

Coaches Demand Answers from Mayweathe

Thank you for watching

Davis’ trainer Calvin Ford, along with assistant coach Kenny Ellis, recently voiced their frustrations in a video shared on Ford‘s Instagram. Ellis didn’t hold back, questioning Mayweather’s motives: “If Tank is like a son to Floyd, why would you put him out of the gym? Biggest fight of his career and you ban him. Why? Did you want him to lose?” The tone was unmistakably frustrated, as the coaches painted a picture of betrayal.

Ford echoed similar concerns, describing the emotional complexity of the relationship. He recounted a conversation with Mayweather where the boxing legend denied having blocked Davis from using the gym. However, both coaches remained adamant that Mayweather needed to be held accountable. Ellis went as far as to challenge the media to ask Mayweather directly about his motives: “I would love for the media to ask him, ‘What was on your mind when you put Tank out of the gym?'”

Despite the tension, Ford also saw a silver lining. Reflecting on the incident, he noted, “It was a lesson within a lesson. What felt negative was actually positive. Tank worked harder, and the results showed.” That hard work paid off when Davis knocked out Ryan Garcia in the 7th round, securing his status as one of the sport’s elite fighters.

What Lies Ahead for Gervonta Davis

With Davis riding high on his success, he is set to defend his WBA title against Lamont Roach Jr. on December 14 at the Toyota Center in Houston. Roach, holding a 25-1-1 record, poses a significant challenge. Meanwhile, Davis continues to build on his undefeated 30-0 streak, with his most recent victory being a knockout against Frank Martin in June.

Sharing six Paris Olympics gold medals between them, Gabby Thomas and Simone Biles were some of Team USA’s most successful athletes at this year’s Summer Games. So sports fans were delighted to spot Biles and Thomas supporting Caitlin Clark-led Indiana Fevers against their clash with the Connecticut Sun in late August. Now months after their meeting, Thomas has divulged the details of her inspiring evening with the GOAT.

“I’ve always been a Simone fan… even more so after Tokyo,” revealed Thomas. The gymnastics icon’s bid to speak out about her mental health at Tokyo 2020 and advocate for fair treatment of athletes inspired Thomas in 2021. However, meeting the seven-time Olympic gold medalist in person was an even better experience for the track star.

Simone Biles

Thomas revealed that she and Simone Biles could meet to show their support for the WNBA thanks to a common sponsor. While she didn’t name the sponsor, they provided the 27-year-old with an opportunity she couldn’t pass up. “I had to chat with her,” said the five-time Olympic medalist. As the duo chatted, Thomas recalled gleaning some important lessons from Simone Biles.

“She shared with me how to advocate for myself, how it’s okay to say no, how I should be proud of my bronzes and silvers, not to let people forget, that’s part of the journey,” Thomas said during her appearance on Ali on the Run. What surprised Thomas was how much wiser beyond her years Biles sounded. “She just had so much wisdom to share,” said the 200m specialist.

Following Joshua’s defeat, the Ben Davison Performance Centre was left in a heavy atmosphere that impacted everyone, including rising star Moses Itauma.

Anthony Joshua’s recent loss to Daniel Dubois cast a heavy shadow over the Ben Davison Performance Centre, affecting not only his career but also the morale of his trainer and fellow fighters. Young heavyweight contender Moses Itauma, who trains under Davison’s guidance, described the atmosphere as deeply somber, akin to the aftermath of a personal loss. For Itauma and his gym mates, Joshua’s defeat was a sobering reminder of boxing’s unforgiving nature and the stakes at play for anyone climbing the ranks.

Joshua’s unexpected defeat in five intense rounds by Dubois shook his team and gym to the core, with the normally upbeat Ben Davison struggling to rally spirits. Itauma, a 19-year-old with high aspirations in the sport, explained that returning to the gym felt like entering a space of mourning. “The gym vibe was down,” Itauma shared. “Ben’s reaction reminded me that this isn’t just a sport; it’s a part of who we are. It mattered that he wasn’t just brushing it off.” For Itauma, Davison’s somber mood signaled a depth of commitment, one that Itauma believes is crucial for a coach guiding fighters to the top.

Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua

Despite the challenges, Itauma sees the reaction to Joshua’s loss as a catalyst, a spark pushing everyone to refocus on their individual paths. Having recently returned from a break and eager to train, he described how the emotional weight in the gym helped him channel that energy toward his next fight against Australian Demsey McKean on December 21. This atmosphere of seriousness reminded Itauma of his own goals and what it takes to achieve them.

Itauma’s determination to overcome

Itauma, who has already achieved ten wins in his early career, feels a heightened drive to succeed in the wake of Joshua’s loss. His path to success hasn’t been easy, and the weight of Joshua’s defeat underscores the resilience required in boxing. “When I came back from my holiday, I realized how much I need this,” Itauma said. “Boxing isn’t just a job; it’s part of me. I want to make an impact not only in the ring but in people’s lives.”

The 58-year-old heavyweight is set to head to the ring for the first time since 2020 later this month. However, while his bout with Roy Jones Jr. four years ago was an exhibition, his next fight will be a professional one. On November 15th, live on Netflix, Mike Tyson will clash with Jake Paul.

The boxing match will be the former champion’s first professional contest in nearly two decades. His last bout took place in June 2005, suffering a stunning upset loss to journeyman Kevin McBride. Now at 58 years old, Mike Tyson is preparing for one more fight against ‘The Problem Child’.

In the build to the contest, Jake Paul has repeatedly mocked the heavyweight’s age. Given the 31-year age gap between the two, it doesn’t come as a huge surprise. However, Mike Tyson is in arguably the best shape of his entire career. Taking to Instagram earlier today, the heavyweight posted a photo of his physique.

Boxing legend Mike Tyson reveals shredded physique ahead of Jake Paul fight

Just based on the photo, it’s clear Mike Tyson is taking preparation seriously. Based on a recent interview he gave to TalkSport, ‘Iron Mike’ is getting ready for a long night. In the interview, Tyson stated that he expects to have to hunt down Jake Paul on November 15th. However, he doesn’t believe that will be a big issue.

“I see him running around and I have to try and catch him and slaughter him. Mike Tyson stated in the interview discussing his return to the boxing ring against Jake Paul. He’s a good little fighter but he’s only had ten fights which is considered as an amateur in our field.”

He continued, “I have to catch him and slaughter him. No [I don’t fear for him] because he stepped into the ring. If my mother steps into the ring, she has a problem with me. Don’t go in the ring if you don’t want that problem… Jake believes his own lies sometimes. When you’re in a big fight, you have to become delusional and believe you’re somebody that you’re actually not. He’s in a lot of trouble.”

What do you make of this boxing news? Are you excited for Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson?

Gervonta Davis (30-0, 28 KOs was expected to defend his WBA lightweight title on December 14 at the Toyota Center in Houston against Lamont Roach Jr. (25-1-1, 10 KOs). Dan Rafael has now reported via his Fight Freaks Unite Substack that sources with knowledge of the Davis-Roach fight have told him that the fight will not happen this year.

Gervonta Davis Next Fight vs. Lamont Roach Jr. Postponed to 2025

Why Gervonta Davis Next Fight is Delayed

The WBA had approved the fight between Roach and Davis. Both announced the contest on their social media, as did PBC. Fight Freaks Unite contacted Davis to clarify the situation, with “Tank” saying: “January I’m hearing” for a likely period when the fight would occur.

The exact reason for the delay to this fight is unclear but Dan Rafael reports via sources that there was an issue related to the venue. Where and when Davis-Rocach takes place is not certain, sources have revealed to FFU that it is unlikely to be on the same bill as David Benavidez vs. David Morrell.

It appears that December is not completely off the table with a non-PPV card at the Caribe Royale resort in Orlando, Florida or The Armory in Minneapolis as possible options for “Tank” vs. Rocach.

Form of Both Fighters

Davis has fought once this year, knocking out Frank Martin in the eighth round to retain his WBA title. He had been rumoured to be facing Vasyl Lomachenko, but the Ukrainian superstar decided to take the rest of 2024 off.

The postponement of this fight will also ensure Lamont Roach Jr. has only fought once in 2024 – defeating Feargal McCrory by eighth-round TKO. That win was the first defence of his WBA 130-pound title that he won from Hector Luis Garcia in 2023.

Gervonta Davis has a sensational collection of knockouts to choose from for his best.

Davis is unbeaten at 30-0, with 28 of them coming by knockout, helping him becoming a three-weight world champion in the process.

He has stopped a number of elite fighters during those world title fights, including Ryan Garcia, Rolly Romero, and most recently Frank Martin back in June.

It is another man that ‘Tank’ feels is his greatest knockout though, as he explained to PBC why his win over Leo Santa Cruz is number one.

“I would say Leo Santa Cruz. In training camp I was running every day for Leo for two or three months. I was getting my ass whooped in the gym in sparring. I knew his output would be high but I knew mine would be up there with his or close.

Gervonta Davis

“I had to pick my shots because of what type of fighter he was, because he’s not going to stop. If he feels as though he’s breaking me down that’s when I’m going to get my ass whooped.

“They felt I was going to break down but I was doing my job so much that I was ready for everything he threw. I wound up knocking him out in front of his dad and his corner, so it was crazy.”

Davis fought Santa Cruz at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas in October 2020, and after five close rounds claimed the sensational sixth round knockout victory.

‘Tank’ was set to return to Texas to face Lamont Roach in December, but he has now spoken out and revealed a new plan after the fight was set to be postponed.

Gervonta Davis will return to the ring this December when he faces Lamont Roach in a lightweight title clash.

Tank will defend his WBA lightweight crown in this bout and heads into this one off the back of beating Frank Martin in June.

That result stretched Davis’ record to 30-0-0, and he’s fast putting himself in contention as one of the greatest fighters of this generation.

For this contest, Davis is voluntarily defending his belt, while the WBA have granted his opponent special permission to move up a weight category.

Roach is the current super-featherweight WBA belt holder, but he’s prepared to take on Davis as a lightweight.

There were reports that the event could be postponed until 2025 due to potential issues with the venue, but for now, it will take place in December.

Davis vs Roach: Date and how to follow

This lightweight title fight is set to take place on Saturday, December 14.

It is currently going to be held at the Toyota Center, Houston.

As it stands, the main event ringwalks are scheduled for around 4am UK time on Sunday morning.

As of yet, no UK broadcaster has claimed the rights to this fight, but there is plenty of time for that to change.

In the US, it’s set to be shown on Amazon Prime for $75.95.

As the 2024 SportsPro rankings are unveiled, Biles solidifies her status as the pinnacle of commercial value in sports

In a stunning display of market prowess, Simone Biles has once again claimed her position as the world’s most commercially valuable athlete, leaving renowned stars like Lionel Messi and Vinicius Junior in her wake. With an impressive score of 96.16 out of 100, Biles cements her legacy as a powerhouse in sports marketing.

Vinicius Jr and Messi: The challengers

Following Biles, Brazilian sensation Vinicius Junior secured the second spot with a strong 91.52, while football legend Lionel Messi has slipped to fifth place with 89.67. Biles’s dominance highlights a remarkable shift in the commercial landscape, showcasing the rising influence of female athletes.

Also making headlines is Caitlin Clark, who debuts in fourth place with a commendable 90.26. Her rapid ascent signals a new era for women in sports, challenging the long-standing male-dominated narratives.

A balanced representation in rankings

The 2024 rankings reveal a noteworthy gender balance, featuring 28 male and 22 female athletes. This shift emphasizes the increasing recognition and value of female athletes in the commercial arena.

The rankings are determined through a comprehensive evaluation of brand strength, market potential, and economic impact, offering insights into each athlete’s commercial worth.

With the sports sponsorship market projected to soar to $102 billion by 2030, brands are keen to align themselves with top athletes, making this year’s rankings more crucial than ever. As the full list of the top ten most marketable athletes of 2024 is revealed, the spotlight remains firmly on Simone Biles as she continues to redefine what it means to be a leading force in sports marketing.

Shakur Stevenson has made it clear that he will pursue a lightweight unification bout against Gervonta Davis in 2025.

The undefeated defensive master is currently sidelined recovering from a hand injury but has informed fans that he aims to return in February against number one contender William Zepeda before finally making the match-up with knockout artist ‘Tank.’

Stevenson will likely be doing this under the promotional banner of Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing having left Bob Arum’s Top Rank after years of partnership.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Arum wished his former charge the best and said that he would continue to be a fan.

Gervonta Davis

“Shakur is a great fighter really a tremendous talent and I like him very much. We made a big offer to him which he turned down for whatever reason and I really wish him the best of luck, whether that’s with Eddie Hearn or with another promoter that doesn’t matter to me. Shakur is a tremendous tremendous talent and I want to see many more of his fights.”

He went on to say that Stevenson, currently the WBC Champion at 135, beats everybody in the division, including Davis, and may only struggle with Vasiliy Lomachenko should the Ukrainian return to the ring.

“I think Shakur beats everybody at 135 that’s been mentioned. Maybe if Lomachenko keeps fighting, Loma could make a tremendous matchup with him, but other than that I don’t see anybody with the skills to face and beat Shakur.”

Previously, the 93-year-old promoter has told Boxing Scene that he thinks Stevenson, Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez – currently super-lightweight champion – have the beating of ‘Tank’, saying, “all three would beat Davis, I really believe that.”
