Ben Shalom has revealed that a blockbuster clash between Martin Bakole and Anthony Joshua is ‘done’.

Shalom was in attendance for Adam Azim’s victory over Sergey Lipinets on Saturday night at OVO Arena Wembley.

Azim record his best victory to date by blasting out the Russian inside nine rounds to claim the the vacant IBO super lightweight title.

During the event, Shalom spoke with boxing pundit Spencer Oliver to discuss the fight, but ended up revealing some tasty fight news for another one of his clients.

“The promoter of Martin Bakole that’s what I want to be known as,” he told Oliver.

“The number one heavyweight in the world.”Anthony Joshua explainer: Has AJ opened the door for Tyson Fury fight in 2023? | Boxing News | Sky Sports

Shalom proceeded to confirm that Bakole vs Joshua was a ‘done’ deal after the former asserted that he would fight AJ in Africa in the summer.

“It’s done. I’m hearing he’s signed and we’re off to the Congo,” Shalom said.

Joshua and Bakole, 31, have been naturally thrust into a potential showdown ever since Tyson Fury announced in January that he was retiring from the sport.

Bakole, who boasts a record of 21-1 with 16 KOs, is considered by many to be the ‘most avoided’ heavyweight in the division.

However, the Congolese knockout artist has yet to receive his flowers on the world stage in a big-name bout.

This comes despite Bakole locking horns with some of the best in the gym, including Daniel Dubois and current champion Oleksandr Usyk, who he claims he knocked out.Anthony Joshua Finally Reveals His Ambitious Two Part Comeback Plan: "That's The Goal" - Seconds Out

One fight Bakole has always had his eye on in the professional ranks is British star Joshua, 35, whom he sparred while ‘AJ’ trained in Sheffield.

“I think he’ll come [back], yeah. I think so,” he said. “There is a big fight waiting for him in Africa.

“Outside the ring I keep working hard because my fight against him in Africa is a big fight.

“I think it will happen in the Congo…we need to fight in the same stadium and I think it’s going to be in Congo.

Isaac Cruz, who received the ultimate praise from Mike Tyson, defeated Angel Fierro in a thrilling war.

Cruz was fighting on the huge Premier Boxing Champions bill topped by David Benavidez’s mouth-watering clash with David Morrell at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The savage 5ft 4ins super-lightweight was looking to get back in the winning column, having lost his WBA world title by split decision to Jose Valenzuela last August.

His power-punching and relentlessly aggressive style has seen him identified by heavyweight legend Tyson, as fighting similarly to himself in his frightening prime.

All-action was promised and the showdown delivered with 1410 punches thrown by both men, who clashed in a cocktail of concussive and savage punches. Mike Tyson

But it was Cruz who had his hand raised, as he got the edge in the sensational spectacle on the judges scorecards who saw the fight at 96-94, 97-93 and 98-92 in his favour.

From the very first bell the pair got straight into vicious exchanges, with Cruz letting his hands go and attacking Fierro in promising early output.

He didn’t take a backwards step early on tagging his rival with some big shots and trundling slowly towards him, but Fierro tried to match him toe-to-toe.

Fierro worked off the back foot looking to counter punch and looked to use his physical size advantages, but absorbed some damaging blows from Cruz in the second.

The tale of Mexico vs. Cuba has always been an alluring narrative for fight fans, and David Benavidez vs. David Morrell didn’t disappoint. However, in the end, Benavidez was the one to get his hand raised by unanimous decision. But WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis wasted no time halting the celebrations, immediately accusing referee Thomas Taylor of cheating.

From the first bell, both fighters were determined to deliver what fans paid money to watch—an absolute slugfest. Both fighters exchanged blows as if a knockout finish was the only answer. By the fourth round, Morrell had Benavidez hurt and leaning back on the ropes with a surprise right hook. The once invincible Benavidez looked vulnerable for the first time in a very long time.

However, Benavidez remained on the front foot, pressuring Morrell back and relying on counters rather than bringing the action. As a result, Benavidez kept breaking through Morrell’s guard to land brutal uppercuts. Still, Morrell’s resolve wasn’t about to waver even if he stayed on the back foot. Benavidez even took the break after the sixth round as an opportunity to remind viewers he is the ‘El Monstoro’.Gervonta Davis

Benavidez’s performance reflected that, as by the 8th round, Benavidez had landed a lot more punches. Slowly but surely, Benavidez’s power and pressure had started to show its effects on Morrell. By the ninth round, the Cuban was clearly fatigued, and both Benavidez and his corner were well aware of it. ‘The Mexican Monster’ was comfortably ahead on the unofficial scorecard. The only lingering question was: how much longer could Morrell hang on?

As the fight went into the championship rounds, the once-Morrell showboating in the early rounds had to watch Benavidez take up that role. Morrell, with advice from his corner, tried to steal the last two rounds with aggression, but Benavidez invited the action. However, near the end of the 11th round, Morrell scored a surprise knockdown.

Still, the referee deducted a point from Morrell for punching after the bell, putting Benavidez back on top. The judges scored the fight 115-111 twice and 118-108, all for Benavidez. In the meantime, Davis hopped on X to take shots at the referee, writing, “The ref cheatinggg!!!!”

Ben Rothwell is hoping to secure a fight with Anthony Joshua after his BKFC knockout went viral.

The 43-year-old secured the BKFC heavyweight title in brutal fashion at Knuckle Mania 5 on Saturday night.

Rothwell extended his bareknuckle boxing record to 4-0 with a 36-second knockout victory against Mick Terrill and earned $150,000.

However, ‘Big Ben’ has now revealed he is a free agent after his contract with the promotion came to an end.

Following four bareknuckle bouts, the former UFC fighter is now targeting a move to boxing with Joshua on his list of dream match-ups.

Asked about facing fellow ex-UFC heavyweight Francis Ngannou, Rothwell told The Ariel Helwani Show: “Right now I’m a free agent, I very much love the BKFC, I love David Feldman and I would like to continue, even finish my career here.

“How much time have I got? Maybe a year or so, it really depends. But Francis Ngannou, Anthony Joshua, guys who beat them guys.Anthony Joshua's boxing return date revealed - Businessday NG

“To put the gloves on and prove how good at boxing I am would very much be a bucket list.

“I just don’t feel like I’ve ever gotten to show the boxing world how good of a boxer I am.”

Rolando Romero speaks to Fight Hype about Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis’ upcoming fight with Lamont Roach and why he believes the deck is fully stacked in Tank’s favor. Unless Tank completely bottles it, Romero sees this as a surefire win for his former opponent.

On the Gervonta Davis vs Lamont Roach fight

“The thing is like, Lamont Roach moving up in weight. That’s not good man, and you’re fighting a vicious puncher. And that’s not taking anything away from Lamont Roach. Lamont Roach is a tremendous fighter, it’s just the weight, man. And like I said, you’re fighting one of the hardest hitters in the sport.

“You can’t compare my fight to Gervonta with Roach’s fight because I’m another puncher.”Gervonta Davis

On if there’s any path to victory for Roach

“No…Just too much experience, too much power, big weight. Everything is in Tank’s favor…you can make a claim like ‘oh, maybe this person is a better boxer,’ but he’s not a better boxer than Tank. He’s not a bigger puncher, he’s not bigger than Tank, he’s moving up in weight so that might affect him, make him a little bit slower. Tank has a crazy ring IQ, Tank has the better legs — like you can’t make a claim for any of this stuff.

“The only thing is like Tank has an off-night, that can always happen to anyone. But you can’t make a claim for any of this stuff.”

Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn attracted plenty of attention last summer when he stated that pound-for-pound great Floyd Mayweather was continuing to box in exhibition contests because he wasn’t actually as rich as he likes to claim he is.

For a man that calls himself ‘Money’ those comments were never going to sit well with Floyd. As a result, once Mayweather found out that Hearn was in his home city of Las Vegas visiting a local boxing gym earlier this week, a face-to-face meeting between the pair was inevitable.

If anyone is qualified to speak about finances in modern day boxing, then it’s Hearn who fronts one of the biggest promotional companies on the planet. Mayweather, though was having none of the idea that his riches have been in any way exaggerated.

Eddie Hearn Jokes His Way Out of a Confrontation With Floyd Mayweather

‘Money’ Mayweather is believed to be worth $400 million – but Hearn doesn’t buy itFloyd Mayweather

Footage of their encounter has now emerged – and it had a surprisingly friendly tone. Floyd even admitted that “he likes Eddie” before going on to explain how he had heard about Hearn’s comments on this financial situation.

“I don’t have social media on my phone, so they showed me Eddie, and Eddie was like “Floyd Mayweather ain’t got no money, that’s why he doing exhibitions!”

Hearn has previously been very vocal about Mayweather’s financial situation, despite the two not having an official working relationship within the sport. The 45-year-old promoter has not only questioned some of Floyd’s reported income figures, but has also cast doubt over how much of whatever he has earned is left in the bank, given the American’s extravagant spending habits.

The British matchmaker isn’t the only one to pose these questions, either. In the build-up to his August 2017 mega-fight with Mayweather, UFC superstar Conor McGregor continually hinted at Floyd having trouble paying his taxes.

Floyd Mayweather Jr is one of the few fighters in boxing history to walk away from the sport with an unblemished professional record.

The 47-year-old from Grand Rapids, Michigan won world titles five weight divisions during his tenure, defeating the likes of Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Miguel Cotto. His unique defensive style earned him a place as one of, if not the greatest fighter of all time.

Although he faced an array of great fighters throughout his career, ‘Money’ was once accused of ‘being afraid’ of a showdown with Antonio Margarito, which was reportedly due to happen back in 2006.

In an interview with Marca, Mayweather was asked to explain why this fight did not go ahead, as he claims he was ‘glad’ to not face the three-time world welterweight champion.Floyd Mayweather

“Antonio Margarito said over and over again that I was afraid of him. He was pressing, and he wanted to fight so badly, because he was beating fighters with loaded gloves (with ‘casts’), so I’m glad God didn’t let that fight happen.

Because you don’t know what kind of effect it would have had on me. Those (punches) would have wreaked havoc after my boxing career was over. He could have ended up killing me in the ring, you don’t know what could happen. So sometimes you have certain signals (to face fighters or not), I was never afraid of him and at that particular moment it didn’t make sense for us to fight”

Just before he was due to face Shane Mosley in a defence of his WBA light middleweight title in 2009, Margarito was found with illegally wrapped hands that had to be re-wrapped three times to make them legal. Despite this, Mosley went on to stop Margarito in the ninth round to capture the WBA title, although things could have been very different for ‘Sugar’ Shane if it wasn’t for his trainer Naazim Richardson who spotted the issue.

Tiger Woods is ‘broken’ and ‘damaging his legacy’ by continuing to play golf.

That’s according to Rory McIlroy’s former agent, Chubby Chandler, who thinks the 49-year-old American is a shadow of the superstar he used to be.

Woods, during his younger years, was a force to be reckoned with and quickly established himself as one of the greats of the game.

He has struggled over the past 17 years or so, however, having won just one major since securing glory in the US Open in 2008.

Woods is yet to announce when he’ll retire from golf and has been overseeing the early stages of his son Charlie’s own career.

Tiger Woods

But Chandler, speaking to Vision4Sport, thinks it’s time the golf icon hangs up his clubs for good amid his ongoing problems.

“Two of the players on Tiger’s TGL team are retired – [Kevin] Kisner and Tiger don’t play,” he said.

“If I were a betting man, that would have been the best bet in the world because they had half a team.

“I’m not convinced by this TGL. I think Tiger would be better stepping away completely for two to three years and then start playing again, if he wanted to. On the seniors. Play about eight seniors tournaments a year. The ones he likes.

Tiger Woods

“There’s a theory that the British Seniors Open is going to be on at St Andrews when Tiger’s 50.

“I don’t know if Tiger will even be playing in the Majors in 2025 but doesn’t it even make a difference anymore? Do I want to see him down the field? No, I don’t.

“So if he plays in the Majors, I hope he’s at least semi competitive. Not like how he is at the moment.

“The poor lad. Did you see his right leg? He’s shattered. He’s not in great shape.

“I don’t know what’s in his head. If he stepped away and just watched his boy grow up and do all the things you do, if he then came back he’d then be far enough away from the real Majors to be teed up as an elder statesman.

“I used to love watching [Arnold] Palmer and [Jack] Nicklaus playing the Open when they were gone 60 because it was real respect, wasn’t it.

Tiger Woods

“They stood on the smoking bridge and all that. That should be Tiger!

“I’m not doing him down. Stewart Cink nearly won the Open but Stewart Cink was fit.

“Tiger’s not fit. Tiger’s broken. To be doing all that with a broken body I think it’s very tough.

“You’ve got an awful lot of kids now watching a broken Tiger and that’s not how he should be remembered. It’s all very sad, knowing his record and knowing he’s not competitive.

“That comeback win in 2019 [when he won the Masters], that was his moment. That was it.

“All Tiger is doing now is damaging his legacy.”

Claressa Shields makes history every time she steps into a boxing ring. She looks to become a three-division undisputed champion as she heads home to Flint, Michigan to face Danielle Perkins on February 2 to determine the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Shields (15-0) is a two-time Olympic gold medalist and a two-division undisputed champion. The self-proclaimed “G.W.O.A.T.” has held gold at super welterweight, middleweight, and super middleweight. She beat Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse in July 2024 to win heavyweight gold, a division that hasn’t gotten much love.

Collecting gold and taking names, Shields looks to decimate Perkins, entertain family and friends, and put more gold around her waist.

“She (Perkins) is fighting against the best,” Shields said via Detroit News, “and if she comes in there and she don’t put her chin down, and she feels like she can just come out there and bully me and put her size and her weight on me and just punch me hard, and that’s going to win her the fight, she’s in for a rude awakening.”Claressa Shields

A two-time World Championships medalist, Perkins (5-0) took two years off from action and returned in 2024, winning two straight. The 42-year-old has two wins via knockout. A former St. John’s basketball player, Perkins believes she is the first real test at heavyweight for Shields.

Perkins is ready to spoil her homecoming party on a special Sunday fight night.

“If it’s going to be a dogfight, then so far, there’s going to be two dogs, and you’re not going to know who’s who,” Perkins said.
